Not (only) another resilience paper

With the COVID19 pandemic we all experienced first-hand the importance of enhancing resilience. However, the boundary between proactivity and reactivity is increasingly blurred!

Along with Maria Concetta CarissimiAlessandro Creazza, Fabrizio Dallari from LIUC and Lorenzo Prataviera and Marco Melacini from POLIMI Graduate School of Management and Cranfield Schol of Management we are happy to see our resilience study published at Operations Management Research.

As multiple layers are needed to disentangle the temporal characteristics of different resilience strategies, we propose an original taxonomy that elaborates the previous theory by introducing two new dimensions related to the strategies’ timing (“when?” and “howlong?”). Each dimension can be complemented with other sub-dimensions that explain the design and activation of resilience strategies, and their utilisation and availability.

In this way, the proposed taxonomy can provide an original viewpoint to interpret the strategies’ proactivity or reactivity, as strategies cannot be seen as a “simple” matter of “pre/during/post” disruption but presents more articulated features.

“Although the pandemic is still present in our daily lives – says Fabrizio Dallari – the dramatic days following the first lockdowns and the surge in contagions are far away fortunately. In order not to forget, indeed to gear up for the worst (or as the British would say “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst”), here is an article published fresh off the press on a prestigious international magazine in which the joint team of LIUC – Cattaneo University together with colleagues of the Politecnico di Milano analyzed the strategies adopted by companies to ensure business continuity. Thanks again to GS1 Italy for participating in the working group, which led to the publication of the Vademecum for the next normal”.
