Winter or Summer Schools/Sessions

What is the difference between a Winter or Summer ‘School’ and a Summer ‘Session’?

These are all intensive courses, organised and held at foreign universities (sometimes LIUC partners) during the winter and summer terms.

The main difference is that ‘Schools’ often deal with the culture and language of the host country while ‘Sessions’ are business, engineering or law courses usually open to students from all over the world. In principle, all students enrolled in the degree courses of the various Schools may participate in these courses (unless otherwise specified on the websites of the universities concerned).

Participation costs are borne by the students, who must also demonstrate a good knowledge of English, if required, before departure.

For the Winter or Summer Schools or Sessions, please see below on how to sign up.

Participation

You will have to make contact in good time directly with the LIUC partner university organising the Winter or Summer School or Session you are interested in for the necessary registration and payment procedures, respecting the deadlines of the universities organising the courses.

Academic Recognition

In order to be approved for academic recognition, you must send a proposal for recognition of the Winter or Summer School or Session to the International Relations Office ([email protected]). It will be evaluated by your School of studies.

Complete the form below and send it to the International Relations Office.

On your return, you must provide the International Relations Office with a certificate from the foreign institution certifying your attendance at the Winter or Summer School or Session, the number of credits and the evaluation in order to be able to proceed with any recognition.

List of Offers

In the following cases the application process takes place via LIUC International Relations Office: in the first case (IÉSEG Summer Academy) co-funding that partially covers the cost of participation is available subject to competition (see the application documentation for details); in the second case (Summer School New York) a class of LIUC students is accompanied by LIUC lecturers on very specific topics, which will be automatically recognised on your return.

Many universities that are not LIUC partners offer what are called Summer Sessions or Summer Courses, i.e. they offer, ‘remedial’ courses of about three weeks in the summer period for their students who have not been able to pass their exams during the normal academic year, and these possibilities are also opened up to students from around the world.

Here, too, the costs are borne by the participating students and the terms and timing of admission are decided by the foreign universities.

Please note that for any academic recognition at LIUC, students must submit the relevant form before enrolling in the Summer Session that interests them, to the International Relations Office at LIUC by email ([email protected]) and that on return the student must send the same office a certificate from the foreign institute certifying their attendance at the Summer Session and the number of credits with the relevant evaluation in order to be able to proceed with any recognition.
