Master Degree program

Sustainability & Circular Economy

Master Degree program
Sustainability & Circular Economy

The Master Degree program Sustainability & Circular Economy is a concrete opportunity to get closer to the predominant sustainability principles and circular economy strategies, extending the concept of sustainable development traditionally conceived in linear economies into more circular economies, where materials and resources never become waste – as they are kept in circulation through practices such as maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, and remanufacture – and nature is regenerated. The topics will be addressed both from the perspective of business models, business processes, and technological and digital innovation.

Goals

To train management engineers capable of introducing predominant sustainable principles and circular strategies into enterprises with the support of engineering tools and dealing with the management of scarcity of resources, re-design pf processes, and product servitization in business organizations.

Teaching

The program starts from the principles (and norms) that drive the transition of companies’ business models and operations towards sustainability principles and circular economy strategies. Then, the program moves to the methods and tool for managing a sustainable and circular enterprise and to measure the related performance. Lastly, a laboratory proposes a challenge-based work, starting from real cases of companies that are implementing their transition towards sustainable or circular models.

The program consists of three modules:

  • Sustainability, ESG principles and circular economy
  • Methods, tools, and measurement of sustainability and circular economy practices
  • Sustainability and circular economy transition lab

Therefore, the course also includes a laboratory with companies operating in the manufacturing industry with sustainable and circular principles.

Access

Lectures of the course are enjoyed in person; however, students are allowed to attend them via live streaming with MS Teams (thus without active participation).

Language

The course is taught entirely in English.

Professional Profiles

Graduates will be able to fill roles at both strategic and operational levels of companies, having gained solid skills and knowledge in the topic areas of sustainability and circular economy. The objective of the course is to train graduates either capable of acting as companies’ professionals with the roles of Sustainability Managers, Circular Economy Managers, Process/Product Designers, or able to serve as consultants in business strategies and operations.
