The TOLC-I (Test On Line CISIA – Engineering) is a national test promoted and managed by the Consorzio Interuniversitario Sistemi Integrati per l’Accesso (CISIA).
The TOLC-I (Test On Line CISIA – Engineering) are individual tests, which differ from student to student, and consist of questions selected automatically and randomly from the CISIA TOLC database through proprietary software developed and maintained by CISIA. All generated TOLC-I tests of the same type are of similar difficulty. The CISIA TOLC database, containing the questions used for the test, is protected and is validated by scientific committees specifically set up by CISIA.
The TOLC-I consists of 80 questions divided into five sections. Sections have a predetermined number of questions. Five answers are given for each question, of which only one is correct. Each section has a set time, namely:
Mathematics: 20 questions to be answered in 50 minutes.
Logic: 10 questions to be answered in 20 minutes.
Science: 10 questions to be answered in 20 minutes.
Verbal comprehension: 10 questions related to a passage to be answered in 20 minutes.
Knowledge of the English language: 30 questions to be answered in 15 minutes.
Scoring:
For the first four sections: Correct answers = 1 point. Incorrect answers = -0.25 points. Answers not given = 0 points. Both the score achieved in each section and the total score are visible on the screen at the end of the test
For the fifth section, there is no penalty for incorrect answers and the score is determined by awarding 1 point for correct answers and 0 points for incorrect answers or answers not given.
The test is passed with a score of 16/50 or higher in the first four sections.
In the event of failure to meet the threshold levels for admission to the degree course, candidates who still wish to enrol will be assigned Additional Educational Tasks (OFAs) calibrated on the basis of the failed test. Candidates may attend the course lectures regularly but must have fulfilled the OFAs before taking the examinations. Alternatively, the candidate may take the TOLC-I test on other occasions, in accordance with CISIA regulations, and passing it will release him/her from the OFA constraint.
The LIUC admission thresholds also apply to tests taken at other university locations.
Candidates who have taken similar tests with results assessed as sufficient by the School Council will also be admitted.
For the evaluation of tests taken at other engineering schools or polytechnics, please contact the Orientation Service on 0331.572.300 or email [email protected].
Registration:
Participants register according to the procedures on the www.cisiaonline.it portal, up to six days before the test date. Registration is subject to a fee of 30 euros, paid to CISIA, according to the terms on the website.
The TOLC-I Registration Guide can be found at www.cisiaonline.it/area-tematica-tolc-cisia/home-tolc-generale.
All students enrolled in the fourth or fifth year of secondary school or who have obtained a secondary school diploma are eligible for the test.
The result obtained in the TOLC-I is valid, during admission to a degree course, for all locations using the TOLC-I, regardless of the location where it was taken.
Student may take the TOLC-I no more than once per calendar month, regardless of the university chosen.
Successful completion of the TOLC-I does not lead to automatic enrolment in the degree courses of the School of Engineering.
