Topic

The circular economy is today a central topic in scientific, institutional, and managerial debates at both national and international levels. This innovative economic paradigm promotes a regenerative and sustainable industrial approach by reducing the consumption of natural resources and adopting practices of reuse, recycling, and regeneration. While the circular economy represents a strategic opportunity for companies, its adoption remains highly challenging—particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which often face economic, cultural, and organizational barriers.

Objectives

The CIRCULAR ECONOMY MONITOR project consists of a periodic observatory dedicated to local companies, with the aim of examining the dynamics related to the adoption of circular economy and sustainability practices, with a specific focus on SMEs. The research addresses targeted themes in order to gradually explore different aspects of circularity and better understand the strategic and operational implications for businesses.

The key objectives of the research include:

  • Identifying new solutions to communicate the strategic importance of circularity to managers;
  • Identifying successful circular economy practices that can be replicated by other companies;
  • Providing an annual in-depth analysis of key topics such as the role of digital technologies, waste management, reverse logistics, or sustainable design practices.

Supported financially by Intesa Sanpaolo, the project aims to build a shared knowledge base that can foster the adoption of the circular economy at both territorial and national levels.

Results

The research results are shared through reports, articles published in international scientific journals and national media, as well as presentations at international conferences and events focused on sustainable and circular innovation.
