Circular Economy Monitor

The CIRCULAR ECONOMY MONITOR project consists of a periodic observatory for businesses in the Varese-Como-Lecco area. Its aim is to identify priority issues, including managerial practices, drivers, and barriers to the adoption of circular economy principles and sustainability goals, particularly in industrial sectors of interest to the circular economy, with a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Topic

Circular economy is a highly relevant subject in today’s scientific, institutional, and managerial debates, both in Italy and internationally. It represents a new industrial approach aimed at reducing the consumption of natural resources in order to preserve the surrounding environment, while still promoting economic and business development.

Numerous projects are about to be funded through the first instalment of funds provided by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR) worth 50 billion euros. These projects will lead to a significant shift in companies towards a circular economy.

Objectives

The CIRCULAR ECONOMY MONITOR project consists of a periodic observatory for businesses in the Varese-Como-Lecco area. Its aim is to identify priority issues, including managerial practices, drivers, and barriers to the adoption of circular economy principles and sustainability goals, particularly in industrial sectors of interest to the circular economy, with a focus on small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

The fundamental objectives of the research are:

  • Identify new solutions to effectively communicate the strategic importance of circularity within companies to managers.
  • Identify successful circular economy practices that can be replicated in other companies.
  • Map out the path that businesses need to undertake for an effective ecological transition.

This project is financially supported by Intesa Sanpaolo.

Results

The research results are shared through reports, articles published in international scientific journals, national press, and presented at international conferences and/or seminars organized within the field of sustainable and circular innovation.

The research is currently ongoing.
