Green Logistics Radar

The Green Radar project aims to establish a permanent catalogue of best practices in sustainability within logistics. By conducting interviews with best-in-class companies, experts, and providers of green solutions for logistics processes and the supply chain, it will be possible to develop a tool that allows for the collection, cataloguing, classification, and representation of all practices related to “green logistics” across the four areas of logistics: Packaging, Warehousing, Transportation, and Supply Chain.

Through the Green Radar, every company will be able to learn about the most innovative solutions in the market, assess the level of maturity and adoption of these solutions, and evaluate their applicability to their own business reality.

Topic

Sustainability is now a matter of great importance for companies and has become pervasive across all business processes. Even within the logistics sector, the term “sustainability” has been climbing the ranks of the most recurring terms for some time now, and an increasing number of solutions and practices to make logistics “greener” have been adopted by companies. While this is a positive factor, indicating the vitality and sensitivity of the logistics industry towards sustainability, it has also generated an abundance of examples of these “green” applications. Instead of guiding companies and the industrial community towards potentially adopting “green logistics” practices, it has caused confusion and conflicting messages, often associated with negative phenomena such as “greenwashing” or “green marketing.”

Objectives

With the aim of “guiding” companies and the industrial community in adopting green logistics practices and providing clarity on current and prospective options available to them, the GREEN LOGISTICS RADAR project offers a permanent and continuously updated catalogue of practices and solutions to improve sustainability in logistics.

Specifically, the GREEN LOGISTICS RADAR aims to provide an objective, rigorous, and easily accessible overview to all those interested in sustainability in logistics processes of what can be done to make logistics greener. It catalogues practices and solutions according to the four areas of logistics:

1. Packaging and Load Units

2. Warehousing and Intra-logistics

3. Transportation and Distribution

4. Supply Chain and Organization

Through a structured analysis of various information sources, such as databases, reports, documents published on websites, magazines, and journals, as well as through the development of case studies involving suppliers and users, interviews with best-in-class companies and experts, the GREEN LOGISTICS RADAR will year after year help companies, the industrial community, and anyone interested in sustainable logistics to learn about and stay updated on the most innovative solutions, their level of maturity and adoption, and to evaluate their applicability, benefits, and potential barriers to adoption.

Results

The GREEN LOGISTICS RADAR will be available on a dedicated web page within the Green Transition Hub website. It will be organized using a tree-like structure that can be easily navigated, allowing users to explore the various categories of solutions catalogued within the four areas of logistics.

This will allow for a detailed exploration of the technological and process characteristics of each solution, evaluating their general benefits, understanding enabling factors and barriers to adoption, and exploring specific case studies involving suppliers and beneficiary customers, along with detailed information and additional content such as interviews and company profiles.
